How to Get Free Internet Access

September 2nd, 2010

In today’s economy, it’s important to save money any way you can. One way to cut down on your monthly expenses is to check your spending on internet services. Do you know how to get free internet access?

One method is to check for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who provide free internet connections, such as Netzero or AOL. Just be sure to check for hidden doors – Netzero’s freebie comes at the expense of banner ads, and AOL’s service is only free for a month before they automatically enroll you in their plan. You can check online for directory lists of other ISPs with free or low-cost internet access.

Another option is to eschew a home internet connection and rely on public wireless. Many places of business offer free internet access or free WiFi connections – everywhere from hotels to libraries to fast food restaurants. Again, there are directories online devoted to listing places like these. Simply plug your location into any search engine. Please note that some places require you to take advantage of their services while you enjoy their internet connection (such as ordering a cup of coffee while you’re occupying a table).

If you require 24/7 internet access (such as working from home) but you can’t afford a monthly internet service by yourself, consider sharing with a friend or neighbor. You can piggyback the same signal and split the bill. Just make sure it isn’t illegal in your state before you do this!
