January 13th, 2010

Taking on a body cleansing and detox program several times a year is one of the wisest health care choices we can make. Cleansing our body has hardly been more essential than in the last 20 years. There is an unprecedented and dreadful number of toxins in our air, water, and in the food we eat.

A bi-monthly body detox program, in and of itself, is usually not adequate to clean our body of toxins, particularly if our daily eating and living routines are less than ideal. Hence one of the second wisest health care choices we can make is to implement numerous healthful habits into daily life. There are hundreds of good habits to choose from, one of which is increase the fresh fruit to your diet.

Fruits are a natural purifier, particularly the acid fruits, such as pineapple, lemons, limes, grapefruit, for example. If you begin the habit of eating 2 or 3 pieces of fruit a day, you willencourage a modest, casual detox program for yourself.

Here are some guideposts for making the biggest gain from eating fruit:
Fruit is best consumed by itself because it breaks down very quickly in the digestive track. Try not to eat fruit when you eat meat. You will make a putrefication response in your gut that will create gas, indigestion or bloating and weaken your nourishment. The most ideal time to have fruit is first thing in the morning.

Another ideal time to have fruit is as a snack in the mid or late afternoon. Pick a low glycemic fruit such as an apple if blood sugar can be a problem.

Be conservative with your fruit consumption. Fruit contains natural sugars and too much fruit at one time can raise your blood sugar levels like a candy bar.
