Familes that Take Pride in Their Achievements
November 3rd, 2009
Every generation produces leaders, geniuses, and great inspirations who will be remembered by future generations. There can be no doubt that people want to preserve strong memories of their forebears and attach themselves to the achievements of their relatives through familial pride. Here are three examples of how families celebrate the accomplishments of their ancestors, relatives, and current members.
Even though the German Empire was formally brought to an end in 1918 its noble class was permitted to retain their lands and titles, including the family of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Although he was never restored to the throne, his heirs have maintained their claim in principle to the ancestral dominion. The current heir presumptive is His Royal Highness George Frederick, the Prince of Prussia.
Famous families have come and gone through the centuries. They make their marks through acting, writing, military leadership, even politics. Some families, like the Booths of the 1800s, fail of their promise when one or more members cross society’s lines of acceptable behavior. John Wilkes Boothe assassinated President Abraham Lincoln, bringing shame upon his relatives. But some families remember achievements with pride. Relatives of Ludwig van Beethove, for example, maintain an official family site.
Some families pass the generations quietly, establishing businesses or otherwise preserving their financial interests. One branch of the Bredimus family maintains a site that documents the careers of several members, including Nicholas Bredimus, who was very influential in airline ticketing systems development.
