Careful with the Big Blind

October 27th, 2009

Sometimes, it can be the source of unexpected surprise and riches in our game of poker online . If every other poker onlineplayer just calls, and you get to see a flop with a hand you wouldn’t normally play, like say 4-8, but you’re in the big blind and then flop two pair, it’s a great feeling.

However, one must also be cautious not to lose a lot of money with a blind hand that you wouldn’t normally play.

Let’s say you have a mediocre poker online hand, Q-3 for example, in the big blind. Four other players just call. Great, you think, I’ll see a flop and maybe get lucky.

But you must exercise caution. Say the flop comes out Q-7-5. Well, now you are going to be enticed to play the hand, but you still have a bad kicker. You may eventually play until the river, and end up losing with a hand you normally wouldn’t play, but only did so because you were in the big blind. Remember, while the blinds can sometimes lead to unexpected wins, you must also guard against playing a mediocre blind hand for too long simply because you flopped something to it while playing.
