Competent Talent Management
October 25th, 2009
A successful business depends on the efficient management of people. These skills may be developed and studied. It can be an advantage to have a innate affinity for people, but you can do some things that will simplify the process. Build relationships: Start by remembering staff’s names. Encourage conversation; look employees in the eye during a conversation. Have a respectful attitude, and be sure to be attentive to everything the other individual has to say, regardless of whether you are in agreement or not. Listening to what employees have to offer is one of the best human resource management skills you can develop. Be sure to show interest in what people can give to the business organization. Live up to promises: Keeping your promises is key. If you can’t deliver on what you promise, the fragile bond of trust is violated, and without trust people certainly won’t perform at their best. Everytime you make a statement or make a promise about something, make sure you can deliver or don’t bother giving your word at all. To be frank, when your people can’t count on you, your team can’t be relied on to be available when it’s really important. Feedback is important: Feedback should be a interactive process. Maintaining an open mind with regard to other people’s opinions is very important in managing individuals. If you can demonstrate approachability and openness, you show that you value your co-worker’s ideas, and they will value your opinions. Supporting conversation in addition promotes evolution of original ideas, new methods of achieving goals, and develops the team. By allowing the team to express their views, the success of the business becomes important to every member. Promote communication: Your people management techniques come down to one concept — communication. Maintaining an open door policy, listen attentively to other people, keep an open mind, and permit team members a chance to express themselves. Employees must be inspired to communicate with one another not only with you. The growth of any business depends to a great extent on the open exchange of ideas, and in listening to each other, it is easy to spot any issues before they present as problems, and measures can be put in place before things get out of hand.
This can require time, but the dividends achieved far outbalance the work. By inspiring a good team dynamic and developing effective listening techniques, you can accomplish a successful business.
