Christmas Treat & Recipe Ideas

Christmas candies are a great idea to give away as gifts or party favors. Sometimes candy is easier to prepare than cookies and they are a nice surprise as a non-traditional treat. Read on for easy Christmas recipes.

Candy Droplettes

Ingredients:

2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups white sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup water, hot

Prep:

  1. In 2 quart saucepan combine sugar, corn syrup, hot water, and salt.
  2. Cook and stir until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Cook until it forms a hard ball without stirring.
  4. Wipe crystals from the sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush.Remove from heat.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk egg whites until peaks form.
  6. Pour the warm syrup over beaten egg whites while beating with electric mixer.
  7. Beat for 5 minutes.
  8. Add vanilla and beat until mixture becomes stiff.
  9. Drop separate spoonfuls onto wax paper. Cool.
  10. Store at room temperature.

Sweet & Salty Treat

Ingredients:

  • 20 mini pretzels
  • 20 pecan halves
  • 20 chocolate covered caramels

Prep:

  1. Heat oven to 300 degrees. Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
  2. On top of each of the pretzels, place a caramel candy.
  3. Bake the sheet of pretzels and caramel for 4 minutes.
  4. With caramel still warm and melty, top each with a pecan half.
  5. Cool and store in cool area, covered.
