Christmas Treat & Recipe Ideas

Christmas candies are a great idea to give away as gifts or party favors. Sometimes candy is easier to prepare than cookies and they are a nice surprise as a non-traditional treat. Read on for easy Christmas recipes.
Candy Droplettes
Ingredients:
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups white sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup water, hot
Prep:
- In 2 quart saucepan combine sugar, corn syrup, hot water, and salt.
- Cook and stir until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil.
- Cook until it forms a hard ball without stirring.
- Wipe crystals from the sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush.Remove from heat.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk egg whites until peaks form.
- Pour the warm syrup over beaten egg whites while beating with electric mixer.
- Beat for 5 minutes.
- Add vanilla and beat until mixture becomes stiff.
- Drop separate spoonfuls onto wax paper. Cool.
- Store at room temperature.
Sweet & Salty Treat
Ingredients:
- 20 mini pretzels
- 20 pecan halves
- 20 chocolate covered caramels
Prep:
- Heat oven to 300 degrees. Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
- On top of each of the pretzels, place a caramel candy.
- Bake the sheet of pretzels and caramel for 4 minutes.
- With caramel still warm and melty, top each with a pecan half.
- Cool and store in cool area, covered.
